Prevention saves lives
Parasites are a silent killer.
Parasites devastate community dogs, causing disease, weakness, and death. Many are zoonotic—threatening human health too. Our deparasitization program breaks this cycle through testing, treatment, and prevention.
Why parasite treatment matters
Parasites threaten community dogs.
In Panama, over 500,000 animals are homeless or abandoned, and parasites are rampant. Parasitic infections cause anemia, malnutrition, organ damage, and death. Many are zoonotic—transmissible to humans. Toxoplasma gondii, for example, is a dangerous parasite that threatens both dogs and people. Without treatment, these infections spiral into bigger health crises.
Dogs in low-income households face the same risks. The scale is staggering: with 3.6 street dogs per kilometer of road across Panama, parasitic disease spreads rapidly. Early testing and treatment can save lives and prevent transmission to human populations.
