Breaking the cycle
Uncontrolled breeding fuels the crisis.
Overpopulation drives abandonment, disease, and suffering. Without reproductive health services, the cycle continues. Our sterilization program breaks it by providing safe, affordable procedures that save lives.
Why sterilization matters
Overpopulation drives suffering.
In Panama, over 500,000 animals are homeless or abandoned. Uncontrolled breeding accelerates this crisis exponentially. Female dogs in breeding cycles face severe health risks, including injury, infection, and cancer. Lactating females—representing 7% of street populations—are particularly vulnerable, weakened by constant reproduction and unable to adequately feed their offspring.
With 3.6 street dogs per kilometer of road, overpopulation strains already limited resources. Sterilization is the only permanent solution to break this cycle. By controlling reproduction, we reduce abandonment, improve individual health, and create sustainable population management across our communities.
